Combined January Services

Many thanks to the Christchurch West, North and South congregations for joining with us for four combined Sunday services in January. It was great to see so many people of all ages coming together and to hear different worship leaders. The photos below are from three of the services.

Pride Celebrations

Thanks to everyone who came to our Pride Week events: an evening of board games, fun, food and laughter on Friday and a wonderful service on Sunday!

Welcome back II

It still may not be church as usual, but as from Sunday 03 October we are back meeting in person for our Sunday Gatherings at Aldersgate. As much as we enjoyed staying in touch with Virtual Sundays again, we are so looking forward to seeing each other again in person. As usual, we really don’t care … Continued

Church-not-as-usual

Durham Street Methodists will not be meeting at Aldersgate this Sunday, but instead we will be meeting in your living room. Don’t worry – no need for an extra tidy up or a rush to the supermarket for extra morning tea supplies.  As we discovered last year, in the age of COVID we can do … Continued

We are loved

Aldersgate was alive last Sunday for a special celebration to close Pride Week in Christchurch. Just under 60 people of all ages took part in a colourful and creative celebration, under the theme of We Are Loved. Opening with the haunting sounds of the song “Draw the circle wide” from our lock-down friends at Eastminster … Continued

Celebrating our children

While there are up’s and down’s from week to week, it’s very encouraging to see a gradual growth in the number of children as a part of our inner-city congregation. Not only do they come with mums or dads, but are just as likely to come with grandads, grandmas, aunts or friends.  They bring a … Continued

Sunday Gathering celebrates rivers & the gift of water

In this Season of Creation, Durham Street Methodists celebrated River Sunday with a symbolic ‘river of life’ flowing down the middle of the Chapel, during our Sunday Gathering this week. Dorothy offered a challenging reflection on a hospitality for the excluded that empowers – and it all centred around a gift of water (from an … Continued

We survived our first Virtual Sunday

We survived our first Virtual Sunday – meeting as church in the age of the virus. About 26 people over 19 connections meet together and encouraged each other. Only one person was brave enough to come in their pyjamas. Nobody was injured, and we didn’t break the internet. In fact, some people said it was … Continued

You are invited to be a part of Virtual Sundays

We’ll be gathering this Sunday at 10:00am at your place, but don’t worry, no need to do an extra clean-up or get in more morning tea supplies. Instead you are invited to an exciting new experiment in doing church differently in the age of the virus: Virtual Sundays: Church-Not-As-Usual. This is not just a video of … Continued

All Church Gatherings Suspended

Today we received notice that the Methodist Church of New Zealand Te Haahi Weteriana o Aotearoa has suspended all church services – this includes ours at Durham Street. This is not only in consideration of the risks of those attending, but also to reduce as much as possible any further spread of the virus to … Continued

We celebrate birthdays

Celebrating a first birthday (and a few several years older at the same time) in our church community.

Celebration of love

With the help of Mere & Kili’s Christchurch family and friends, our church community had the great pleasure to host a wonderful celebration as our Sunday Gathering on 27 January 2019. The Knox Hall was full for the blessing of the marriage of Kili and Mere, and the baptism of their cherished son, Bati. It … Continued
