Christchurch Methodist Mission, as a part of the collaborative Housing First initiative, has been given access to 25 motel units across four complexes (and potentially more if required) to provide shelter for people who are currently homeless, while the country is in lockdown.
In the first instance, ring 0800 43 24 24, and the person will be contacted by the Housing First team, who all also allocate a key worker to support them by phone over the lock down period. If the homeless person doesn’t have a phone, they will be given one. They can be helped to get food, and any Work & Income entitlements.
Please note that there is NO cost to the person to stay in the motel unit, and the service is available for anyone who is homeless (they don’t need to meet any other criteria).
