Last Sunday, 22 February 2026, was the 15th anniversary of the earthquake in Ōtautahi Christchurch when 185 people lost their lives, including three people at the Durham Street Methodist Church. Neil Stocker, Scott Lucy and Paul Dunlop were in the process of removing the organ from the old stone church on 22 February 2011.
The service included a time of remembrance in the garden at Aldersgate. The memorial garden was created on the site of the part of the former church where the organ used to stand. The white chair was for many years part of the 185 empty chairs memorial artwork created by Peter Majendie.
