The Imam and the Pastor

August 24, 2019 @ 3:30pmThe Imam and the Pastor Event Details

3:30pm Saturday 24 August at St Mark’s Methodist Church, Corner of Barringtgon & Somerfield Streets, Somerfield 8024.

Jointly presented by the Canterbury Interfaith Society and the Christchurch Multicultural Council: Imam Dr Muhammed Ashafa, a Muslim cleric and Pastor Dr James Wuye, an Assembly of God Christian pastor, are known to many as “The Imam and the Pastor”. They are Nigerian religious leaders who spent years as the leaders of violent militias fighting each other. Then something changed, inside them, and since 1995 they have learned to trust each other and now work side by side for peace and reconciliation. A Koha will be collected to support the work of the speakers.

Two films have been made of their work and they gave a Ted talk in Berlin in 2015 and spoke at the Nobel Peace Prize awards the same year.
