Gay is OK – Because the Bible Tells Me So

Gay is OK because the Bible tells me so

Nathan Jennings used to be adamantly opposed to the ‘gay lifestyle’. He now considers himself LGBTQ-affirming, and an ally to the community. Why the change? Well, he blames Jesus. The more he studied the Bible and learned about Jesus and what it means to be truly human, the more he discovered that love is at the centre of all that exist. So now he believes more than ever that Love is Love.

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God” (I John 1:7).

Once he started down this new understanding, he has had too many conversations to count that ended in someone saying that even though they have conflicting thoughts about affirming LGBTQ people and gay marriage, and that they really do want to affirm the community, but they couldn’t fully embrace it because “the bible clearly says it’s a sin”.

As someone who takes the Bible and its teachings seriously, Nathan briefly outlines in his blog a biblical case for not only acceptance but affirmation of the LGBTQ community and gay marriage. This includes not demurring from confronting the so-called ‘clobber passages’ that usually lead people to simplistically conclude homosexuality is a sin.
